I have TWO posts today, so scroll down to see my Rooster card.

The Magnolia-licious blog issued a Pretty in Pink Challenge. Make a card with pink.

We have a graduation to attend so of course I needed a card! This particular graduate is an accomplished pianist so the sheet music background paper is perfect. It was included in the Stampers' Sampler Take Ten magazine. I colored graduation Tilda with Copic markers. The oversize paperclip added some needed weight I think.



I have struggled coloring faces but think I'm at least improving. I watched a Suzanne Dean tutorial again. Taking a picture though, does seem to show everything you miss in much greater detail!


FYI: The flower frog that the card is sitting on is from Michael's. $3.99. Not vintage or pretty but it gets the job done. I may cover the base with a little ribbon.

Celebrate Today!


I tried to use my 10 hour travel time in the car over the weekend productively. I took along my Stampers' Sampler Take Ten Winter 2010! As I went through the pages I made sketches, took notes, and thought of stamps sets I owned that I can use for the same look.

Roosters were featured a couple of times! I have a retired SU set "Roosting" that has not seen ink in a long time. 2 Sketches 4 You and Mercy's Tuesday Sketch had similar layouts perfect for what I had in mind.


I chose to stamp the Rooster on pattern paper giving it a more vintage feel versus coloring. Spellbinder's Fleur de lis border was the perfect addition for added interest. The pattern papers are from a Michael's paper pack.


A sentiment from PTI's mixed messages and twine keep the card simple but sweet!! Oh, the card base is PTI's vintage cream. I had been using a lighter weight cardstock for card bases. Not anymore. It does make a different in the quality of the finished product.

Target $ Spot Mailboxes

Have you heard the buzz about Target's little mailboxes in the dollar spot?


I didn't pay to much attention until Jessica Sprague's site offered a free template that will be available through February 1st. I've learned just enough of Photoshop Elements to be dangerous so decided to give it a try. I made three. The mailbox colors are white, pink, and red. My  picture makes them look a little blue! EEk!


I learned a little more each time and was pleased with the results. I bought a couple more so I can continue to practice!!!

Don't you just love inking up a new stamp set? All the possibilities. . .

PTI's Through the Trees is going to a classic, must have set. I used the big tree stamped on pattern paper for added texture without bulk. As someone who usually stamps on neutral cardstock and then layers on pattern paper this is a great change of pace. Love it!!



The sentiment is from the same set. A button and twine complete this easy card. I think twine is my favorite ribbon!

Take 10 - PTI Jan. Blog Hop

Time to Hop! PTI's new set Top Ten is what I used for the Total Package challenge issued by Nicole.

For the card front I stamped "Things I like about You" with Enchanted Evening ink. Stamp once and then again for the lighter watermark image. Using Spellbinders Labels One,I cut 2 sizes of dies. The bottom layer is a plaid paper from My Mind's Eye. The top layer is kraft that I then stamped a Vintage Labels border inked in SU Old Olive to highlight my list of adjectives that are in Enchanted Evening ink. I used my 1 3/4 punch for the "5". The dotted and solid circles from Take Note are the perfect size for the 5 or 10 in Top Ten. A little ripe avacado saddle stiched ribbon and an enchanted evening button tied with twine finishes the front.
The inside of the card again used "Things I like about You." By securing a scrap piece of paper in the middle I created a frame. The punched and matted circle with the "5" in the middle is the perfect added element.

For the front of the envelope, I used the journaling lines from Take 10. The back flap of the envelope was so easy to do after using this same idea several times.

National Hugging Day is TODAY!

Hugs Everyone!!! Today is National Hugging Day! I sure hope you celebrate. When I was looking for “fun” dates to celebrate in January this was a given. I made THREE -one for my husband and two for my teenage sons.



I used Cosmo Cricket’s DP “More Fish in the Sea” as my jumping off point. I cut different size label one mats in SU Taken w Teal, Soft Suede, and Old Olive cardstock. “Hugs” was printed onto PTI Terra Cotta cardstock. I think this color combo is just right for the men in my life!

Waddle I Do Without You?

FYI - I posting a little early so I can make the deadline for the challenge.

Today (20th) is of all things, Penquin Awareness Day!! This would not usually be a day I might celebrate but considering I had this super cute digi stamp from Whimsie Doodles, I couldn't resist.

Whimsie Wednesday Challenge #14 at Papercraft Planet is From the Outside Looking In, challenging everyone to make a card that has a window in it. A first for me! Then Terri, a Papertrey Peep let me know about a challenge at Moxie Fab World that is featuring outside and inside of cards as well. Lots of great inspiration. Be a part of this BIG trend!


I used PTI's Bkgrd Basics:Text Style II to create the white embossed background on Pure Poppy cardstock. I also used a zigzag stitch and straight stitch on the backgrounds. Can you see the coconut topping of the cupcake made with Polar White Flower Soft? I used my Copic Markers to color the image. I'm still practicing.




In the picture above, you can see my window! This card took me awhile to figure out but I like it. The last photo is the inside of the card.

How Many X's would YOU Color an Image?


So . . . you are learning to use your Copic Markers. How many times would you color the SAME image? Once? Twice? Five times? I think I lost track! but I improved.


I finally completed one!!! The image is from Mo's Digital Pencil. I love the image and it was perfect for practicing. The paper is "Stitched Floral" from the Paper Studio. The ribbon is also from Hobby Lobby.
I really need to watch some videos that show how to do faces. Do you know of a great tutorial that would help? Leave me a link in the comments.

Winnie the Pooh Day!

Today is Winnie the Pooh Creator A.A. Milne's birthday. My family loves Pooh! My boys are past these days but I have such wonderful memories.  

I am planning to celebrate "14 Days of Love" starting Februay 1st. I read this idea on a blog and of course now I can't find it but apparently their parents had started the tradition of making small tokens, etc. to give their spouse.



I recently commented to my dear husband that he looked nice. His reply was "thank you, you haven't told me that in a while. I appreciate that." Do you forget to tell the ones you love how much you appreciate them? I then came across the "14 days" and knew it would be a perfect way to let him know how much I love him. So I will be giving this card to him in February.

If you decide you would like to do a "14 Days of Love" let me know. I would love to see what you create.

Label One Gift Bag

My inspiration for this project came from Dawn McVey's scrapbook layout on Thursday. Of course I don't have this stamp set . . . yet, but I loved the concept. I also wanted to do something besides a card. So out came some fabric previously used for quilts, heat n bond, and labels one from Spellbinders.

After I completed the bag, a design for a card came easily. I did the sentiment on the computer and ironed on the fabric. So simple. So quick.

Valentine Card & Taco Soup

I was able to combine 2 challenges with this card. First, 2Sketches4U as the layout and then sewing on my card for JUGS.

I also used glitter for the first time. I had been avoiding it but I decided to use 1/4 scor tape and Martha Stewart glitter. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was! I also used 2 way glue around the frame.

One of the fun dates of January is that this month is National Hot Soup Month. So I'm sharing my Taco Soup recipe. This couldn't be any simpler. Perfect way to make sure your family has dinner and you have time to craft.

For my Project Life photo of the day, I decided to take a pix of the ingredients in the crock pot. Color inspiration--I don't think so!

Taco Soup for the Crock Pot

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 cans Ranch style pinto beans
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 large can hominy
1 can diced rotel tomatoes
1 med. onion
1 pkg. mild taco seasoning
1 pkg. ranch style salad dressing mix

Brown beef and onion. Add to crock pot. Stir in all other ingredients and cook on low for several hours.Great served with tortilla chips and cheese. Servings – 6

Happily Ever After Challenge #2 & Mojo Monday

How about a Valentine challenge that says NO valentine colors but instead football team colors? Would you do it?? Check out Ted's challenge HERE.

All I can say is GO COWBOYS!!!! Team colors are blue and silver. I used the Mojo Monday sketch #21 as my layout inspiration.

PTI's background: text II embossed with silver on SU Going Gray was the kick off point. PTI Enchanted Evening CS and ink for the heart image which is retired SU. The vellum paper is great, silver hearts from Hobby Lobby. The touch down is a lil white crochet yarn around the top of the heart.

Seven PTI stamp sets on ONE card!

This is the 1st time I've participated in Dawn's color challenge. I had a lot of fun creating this card.

I am working on my own challenge of creating cards for "14 Days of Love" to give my DH. He is so supportive of my hobbies that I figure he needs to reap some of the creativity!

This card uses lots of PTI goodies. I stamped Aqua Mist with background basics: Text Style II which is very hard to see in this picture. I clear embossed background basics: Diamonds on the Dk Choc.
The tag is a Spellbinder die that I stamped with Everyday Button Bits and hearts from a punch. The "B" is from Fresh Alphabet. The "flourish" is from Vintage Labels.

The dotted circle on Lemon tart is from Take Note. "Mine" is from Simple Alphabet. And last but not least, the twine is PTI as well.

SEVEN PTI stamp sets on ONE card!!!  Oh My!

"Plane Fun"

Like so many, I really like the Mojo Monday sketch this week. The DP is from My Mind's Eye. The plane is matted on SU Rich Razzleberry. The ribbon is PTI Spring Moss.

The plane is a mini Valentine digital stamp from Whimsie Doodle that is so cute! I absolutely love them. As I watched the Dallas Cowboy game last night I colored Valentine's with my Copic Markers.

In December Amanda had a last minute giveaway from The Studio by Davidson Designs. I was the lucky winner. I thought you might like to see what I chose.

Hybrid Happiness!

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about this card!
One of my goals this year is learning Photoshop Elements so I touch up my photos and make my own digital elements. I finally figured out how to make a watermark!!!
Can you see it on this card?


I am taking the self paced Brush Abilities class at Jessica Spraque's site. The lesson today was on brushes. She said they would change your life! I believe her. The classes are excellent. I started with one of her free classes and I'm continuing on.

The butterflies on the blue paper are brushes that can easily be sized. Changing the color is very easy as well. The pretty flourish around the sentiment is also a brush!!

I matted the digital blue paper on SU Not Quite Navy paper and used PTI's Terra Cotta twill ribbon! So easy.

I love learning something new! especially when you get great results!!

Wish Big

Wish Big is for a challenge at Caardvark's. I had a blast making my pink paper. White paper embossed with a SU texture plate magically becomes pink after rubbing red and purple chalk to make the embossing stand out. What an easy way to customize paper for a project. Don’t forget to set the chalk with hairspray!!

The border for the gift package is from JustRite’s “Preserves” set. The package is a retired SU 2 step set called “Season’s Sketches.” The sentiment is PTI’s “Big & Bold Wishes.”

The 2nd pix is some of my initial playing around. And to think I considered getting rid of my chalk a few weeks ago in my zeal to "clean out". I'm glad I reconsidered. :)

Happy Birthday!

How about a birthday card to start the New Year? I enjoyed putting this one together. I used a retired SU set “Happy B-day frame” and PTI’s “Everyday Button Bits.”

I used a heart punch for the bird body. I used a pop dot for dimension and a brown rhinestone from Kaiser for the eye. I can see lots of birds made this way for Valentine cards.

The floral paper is from a Michael’s paper pack. Happy Birthday is stamped with SU soft suede onto PTI aqua mist cardstock that I cut with the label one set and matted on a soft suede square. The brown/white gingham ribbon is from Hobby Lobby.

January Dates to Remember!!

Tis the season to work on goals and I’m no different. Like many, I was spending more time looking at blogs than creating. I am training myself to create first before getting on the computer!

One advantage the designers have is a timetable that gives a deadline for their projects. I work best with a plan as well. I decided to create a calendar of “fun” events to work on each month.
